STORY of WILDHORSE RESEARCH: Wildhorse began several years ago as a simple idea to apply my creative research skills to Greene Words services. Since then, I've expanded to include Workshops, Coaching, Specialized Research, Speaking and Creative Consulting. If you'd like to read more on any of these services just click on one of the buttons in the picture. If you're interested in getting familiar with my own creative writing just click here MossExpress. You can also listen to podcasts, readings of my poems & other work there as well.
WHY WILDHORSE? Ever since I was child, I've felt an affinity with horses. I grew up next to my uncle's farm and can still recall riding in the wagon, pulled by Bob the farmhorse. Bob was an older boy by then but he had a special aura. I used to wonder what he was feeling and what it would be like to ride with him, without the wagon. I'd imagine us galloping through the meadows of clover and stopping for a picnic. I wanted Bob to run free! During the summer holidays my cousins, siblings and I would play on the farm and in the nearby woods, and in the fall we'd ride on the tractor, helping cut and bale the hay. Sadly, even to this day, I have never ridden a horse.
THE DARK SECRET: It took a long time for me to realize that fear was the culprit holding me back from doing things I really wanted to do. It wasn't necessarily that I was afraid of riding horses or even of falling off. I was actually paralyzed by fear itself - so much so that I sometimes held my breath, without being aware of it. It was a generalized state of being that dominated almost everything I did, altering my senses and leaving me feeling like I'd fallen down Alice's Rabbit Hole.
ALL THE HORSES I NEVER RODE became symbolic of all the joyful experiences I missed out on, all the moments I wasn't present because I was worried or anxious (which for me has roots in fear). The good news is that, eventually, I got help and learned ways to not let fear take over my life (Read more at FREE WORDS and GREENE WORDS blog). And even though I've yet to ride a horse, my dream of riding horses is now gounded in reality rather than being merely a day-dream that allows me to escape from reality. I have measurable realistic goals to achieve that dream, because it is connected to a greater purpose - helping heal myself, others and the earth by using my special gifts. Best of all, I wake up in the morning feeling more excited than anxious about the future - despite the scary headlines in the news - and more ready to face the challenges that will bring me closer to my dreams.
THE WILDHORSE APPROACH: This approach to healing, and the knowledge and understanding that evolved from it, is one of the most important personal experiences I bring to my workshops and coaching services - because some measure of fear is present in all of us, often in a negative form, and it blocks us from our deepest creative selves and from profound self growth. If we wish to reach a genuine place of being, where we can express our true selves fully and not feel restrained or fearful in doing so, it is essential to learn how to connect with our soul and "higher power". You might call that energy God, the Creator or, among other titles, Mother Earth. It matters less to me what the name is than it does how we honor our higher power, and that we show respect, kindness and compassion for ourselves and all living beings. I am constantly striving to be a better person. When I make mistakes I try to stay focused on what I can learn from them by listening to my intuition and drawing upon all the creative energy within and around me.
FEAR can be debilitating but it's also essential to our survival - such as when we're in trouble and need to act, to confront danger, to escape it or simply to ride out the storm. And then there are those fears that have more to do with the past than the present. When we experience vague or intense feelings of angst that seems to have no rhyme nor reason, such times present us with opportunities to explore our feelings rather than suppress them. Every challenge has its share of discomfort, accompanied by a measure of fear. How we deal with these feelings can make the difference between growing more joyfully or suffering in a perpetual state of angst and stagnation.
There are many ways to address our fears. Only you know what feels right for you and your particular situation. When we are connected with our souls we begin to trust our intuition more and more - and that is so liberating. It frees us to enter the sacred realm of the imagination, where creativity has no limits. This place, to me, is as real as it is magical. And it needs to be more honored in our society.
In my Wildhorse workshops and coaching, I help you explore deeper emotional states that get in the way of accessing your vibrant, creative self, so you can free the words and ideas that express the true"you". Horses are a powerful symbol of freedom to many. For me it's also about empathizing with nature and connecting with my spiritual self / soul. As a writer and poet, I see all nature as inspiration but no creature ignites my creative fire more than a wild horse. Even the promise of knowing such a magnificent presence is a tremendous motivation. I can't imagine anyone not benefitting (creatively or otherwise) from being near horses - even if it's only in one's imagination. Want to connect with your wild spirit? Free your words.
